Inkscape is awesome
Every so often, an open source tool turns out to be really, really good.

If for any reason you're looking for a vector drawing program, have a look at Inkscape. It's new-ish and has a few stray weirdnesses, but only a few. And it comes with excellent tutorials, it looks good, and they've thought hard about making it ridiculously capable but still very usable.

And a lot of the results are quite pretty, which is a plus. Artists seem to actually use it.

and it does some of the best raster->vector automatic transformation available.

It's actually my tool of choice now when someone at work needs a diagram. I found it really easy to use and really easy to make something that looked good.

Thanks! I don't remember what I wanted one for and I think I gave up and used Gimp, but I'll keep this in mind for next time.

Yeah. I've been using Gimp a lot lately... That's one reason Inkscape was so refreshing by comparison :-)

I remember checking out Inkscape a few years back and it wasn't quite there but close... good to hear!

If gimp = photoshop, inkscape = illustrator but not sucky on usability like gimp.
