That was the strongest quake I've felt in CA, though one in Richmond a few years ago came close...

Apparently it was South of us -- IM conversation says it was much stronger in Boulder Creek than here in Fremont.

It was the strongest I've felt as well. I've never seen a house shake like that. USGS says it was a 5.6, with the epicenter 5 miles NNE of Alum Rock.

*grin* You out of staters.... wait till you feel something over 7.5. No little 5.6 thing will phase you again. :)

Must be a measure of how long I've been in CA, then. We looked up from our laptops, watched each other without saying anything through the ~10-20 seconds of shaking (in two waves) that hit here (in Berkeley), and then both went back to work without comment (though checking the USGS site first thing out of curiosity, of course).

Which, by the way, says you've had about ten more tremors in the 1.X range following that one.

how does one tell whether one has been "phased"? Sounds like a Star Trek thing ;)
