Over time, artists find their "look" and writers find their voice. A comic strip settles down and starts to look more "itself" after the first year or two, and a columnist really finds their voice after they've been writing for awhile. Some artists and writers continue to drift, but almost never as much as at the very beginning.

With that sentiment in mind, I wrote up some sample articles. I have four right now, and an "Ideas" file with at least that many more. That's good, it means I have something to say.

Some of you may have already seen the calendar of American Military Dead from the Iraqi war. The interesting part for me is the annotations, specific to each casualty. We lose a lot of men in helicopter crashes, which isn't shocking. We lose a fair number to "improvised explosive devices" killing them on buses or in cars. But at least one man in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle was killed by an "improvised explosive device."

If you check Google, you'll discover that a Bradley Fighting Vehicle is a smallish tank. It's not an M-1 Abrams, but it's got far, far more armor than, say, a jeep.

I don't know how they're improvising those explosive devices, but I'm now a lot more impressed.
