Having a genius as a kid isn't all it's cracked up to be. From a biography of H.P. Lovecraft:

It is remarkable for someone of the age of eight to began teaching himself Latin, but with the help of his grandfather Whipple, that is just what Lovecraft did. The language stood him in good stead when his mother attempted to enroll him in dance classes, and he was able to respond with a quote from Cicero: "Nemo fere saltat sobrius, nisi forte insanit!" ("Scarcely any sober person dances, unless by chance he is insane!")
