Turns out that the FBI has been issuing far more requests for information under the Patriot Act than it claimed, keeping lousy track of the requests, and in many cases having wrong (unauthorized) people sign requests for information for which no investigation is currently pending. In other words, the Patriot Act is being misused exactly how its opponents say it would be, and the Bush administration is doing its best to block audits.

Anybody surprised? Even a little?

Did you maybe post it in "rich text" mode? I accidentally did that the other day and it doesn't recognize html tags.

And, no, not surprised. Sadly.

Ah! You're right. Guess I must have hit it by accident or something.

"Anybody surprised? Even a little?"

Believing that a government agency will use newly-acquired power prudently and responsibly is like betting against The House in Las Vegas.

You will always lose in the long run.
